Just last month, Julie Bishop was at the outside odds of $10 with Sportingbet.com.au to be leading the Coalition into the next federal election. She is now a clear-cut $3 second favourite.
During the same period, Tony Abbott’s odds of still being in the top job come election time have taken a bath, drifting from $1.20 out to $1.50 at Sportingbet.
“We haven’t written a bet for Mr Abbott since last October but there’s been plenty of recent action for Ms Bishop,” Sportingbet’s Andrew Brown said.
“It seems that after every gaffe and every bad headline of late, the money has come in for Ms Bishop to take the helm.”
Malcolm Turnbull’s odds have eased from $4 to $7, with Bishop replacing him as the second pick in Sportingbet’s market.
