Fast forward to 2015, and the former world number one will be starting this year’s tournament as a $41 long-shot at Sportingbet.

But even after scoring his worst professional round just days ago at the Phoenix Open, some Aussie punters are sticking strong with the 39 year old.

“Many of our punters would have never seen such enormous odds for Woods prior to a tournament, so despite that depressing round in Phoenix, we are still taking plenty of bets for him,” said Sportingbet’s Andrew Brown.

“If it wasn’t for that steady public support, he’d probably be double those odds.”

Jordan Spieth tops Sportingbet’s market at $13, just ahead of Australia’s Jason Day at $14.

Woods is still considered one of the main contenders for this year’s US Masters, with Sportingbet rating him a $15 chance along with Adam Scott and Jordan Spieth. Rory McIlroy is the $5 favourite.
